RACE FORMAT FOR 2022

Date/Time: September 10, 2022 at 8am – 2.4 mile loop, 8:10am -1.2 mile loop.

Registration and warm-ups from 7:00–7:45am.  Mandatory meeting and line-up for all swimmers starting 7:45am. Awards table open at the completion all swimmers.

Registration: Online Registration

Location/Directions: Lake Mohawk, Beach 1 in Sparta NJ. The physical address is 21 The Boardwalk Sparta, NJ 07871. Parking is available in the parking lots across from the boardwalk.

Eligibility: All swimmers are eligible.  It is up to each swimmer to understand their limitations, properly train and only enter a distance you feel you are capable of swimming.    Swimmers 12 and under must provide proof of a timed 1 mile swim, supported by a coach sign off.  ONLY ONLINE ENTRIES ARE ACCEPTED.

Conditions: The 1.2 mile course is from Beach 1, around Echo Island, returning to Beach 1.  The 2.4 miler course is from Beach 1, around Manitou Island, returning to  Beach 1.    In water start.  The safety of swimmers is our prime concern; therefore, the swimming event may be delayed or canceled due to bad weather.  The Meet Director and Marine Patrol will make this decision.   There will be no refunds once the swimmer has entered the race.  

Entry Fees: $75 pre-registration by August 15,, 2022, $90 by September 2, 2022. .     On-line registration closes September 2, 2022 at 11pm EST. Only online entries are accepted.  There is no day of registration. Fees include t-shirts for registrations received by August 15, 2022, refreshments, permits, insurance, marine patrol, lifeguards, timing, caps, placement awards, t-shirt, and race bags.  After August 15th, race shirts are available as supply lasts.

Timing: Electronic timing is used.   Results and awards will be available soon after the last swimmer completes the event.   Awards are available for pick-up at the awards table and will not be mailed.

Awards: Awards are for both wetsuit and non-wetsuit categories.   Age groups are: 10 & Under, 11-12, 13-14, 15-19, , 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70-79, 80 & over.  Awards will be available at the awards table for pick-up at the completion of each event. Results will be posted at www.doggedperseverance.org.

Safety – Our Primary Concern: Swimmers still on the course at 10:00am will be stopped and listed as DNF in the results.   In case of inclement weather, the race director may close the course and prevent swimmers from completing the swim.  Entry fee includes a highly visible swim cap that must be worn as the top cap during the swim and all swimmers must have their race number on the provided cap.   Lifeguards, safety boats, and kayaks will monitor the entire race course.   Medical cards are available at day of registration for you to complete and submit to EMTs if you would like to alert them to potential issues (i.e. diabetes, allergies).

Water Temperature: 65 to 80°F, which is heavily dependent upon weather leading into the event due to being a shallow lake.
